Museums

Each community and organization are proud of our historical beginings and demonstrate it with preserving important momentos that make up their community.

Appaloosa Museum

Located in the heart of Palouse county, home of the Appaloosa horse breed, the Appaloosa Museum was established in 1975 to collect, preserve, study and exhibits objects and information that illustrate the history of the Appaloosa horse and its region of origin.

Castle Museum

Abram A. Adams, a native of Scotland, built his residence, The Castle, in 1906. The collections in the museum are mainly comprised of articles that represent pioneer living at the turn of the century in the Potlatch River valley.

Centennial Annex

The Centennial Annex houses the Latah County Historical Society archival, photograph, and object collections, along with a small research library. The collections pertain to Latah County history and include materials donated by families, businesses, clubs and organizations, and local newspapers.

Kendrick Museum

The museum and research center is dedicated to "Preserving the Past for the Future." The museum has several static displays of all aspects of Kendrick's past: schools, military, logging, farming, business, transportation, communication, household, and recreation. The research center contains old gazettes, newspapers, family histories, maps and books of local interest. The J-K Heritage Foundation sponsors this museum.

McConnell Mansion

The Latah County Historical Society operates the McConnell Mansion museum at 110 South Adams Street. The museum is located in an 1886 house built by early merchant turned Senator and Governor, William J. McConnell. The ground floor has been restored reflecting time periods from the turn of the century to the 1930s and is accessible. The second floor contains interpretative exhibits and a hands-on exhibit activities for youth. The McConnell Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in November 1974.

Potlatch Historical Society Museum

The small Potlatch Historical Society (on Facebook) museum in the City Hall designed to preserve the history of a Company Town built around the Potlatch Lumber Company who, in 1906, was the worlds largest sawmill. The museum is located in the lower floor of the Potlatch City Hall. Parking is behind the City Hall, enter from the back, check in with the City Clerks office and they will show you to the museum.

Potlatch Railroad Depot Museum

The museum is supported and maintained by the Washington, Idaho and Montana Railroad Preservation Group (W I & M Ry) to locate, preserve and archive all items of historical nature relating to the history of the W I & M Ry. The Depot is a well preserved building housing the objects and property of the group.

Troy Historical Society and Museum

Located on Main Street, the Troy Historical Society Museum has collections and displays of representatiive material of early Troy days.

White Springs Ranch

The John and Mary Lorangs White Springs Ranch, in Genesee, Idaho was designated as a National Historical site in January 2004. It is the only historical farm home in Latah County on the National Register and represents the Pioneer Homesteads in Latah County.
