Obituary - Garth Eugene Wilson

Garth Eugene Wilson, Latah County farmer for many years, peacefully passed from this earthly life Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. Garth came into this world Oct. 15, 1916, to Ira and Edith Wilson. Garth considered Moscow his home, having graduated from Moscow High School, and established himself as a successful, innovative wheat farmer for 25 years before moving to Canada in 1965. Being truly gifted in farming, mechanics, and raising Hereford cattle, Garth was not hindered with seemingly impossible dreams. While farming in Canada, he met and married Marie Ratzlaff in 1984. They later resided in New Meadows, Idaho, and Mesa, Ariz. In 2004, Garth and Marie returned to Moscow.

When not farming, Garth and Marie loved adventure and thoroughly enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling throughout the United States and Europe. He flew his Citabria airplane often and rode his Gold Wing motorcycle when time allowed. Garth was active in the local Nazarene church, and guided his family into regular church activities. His commitment to his heavenly Father grew stronger in the latter years of his life. His two daughters consider his legacy and Christian heritage to be their constant source of remembrance of a dad who was their shining example of love. His daughters consider him to have been the finest and most gentle example of fatherhood possible. He was their hero.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Garth will be forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed.

Family members preceding Garth in death are his loving wife, Marie, on Dec. 28, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Anita Jackson in April 1994; and by his sister, Winifred Wilson, in December 1999.

Viewing is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. The celebration of Garth's life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at the Moscow Cemetery.
