Obituary - Theodore B. Wessel

Ted Wessel, 78

Theodore B. Wessel, 78, a retired Genesee farmer, died May 19. He suffered a heart attack while on a senior citizen's bus tour in eastern Idaho, was taken to the Madison Memorial Hospital at Rexburg and died a few minutes after admission.

A native of Vellern, Germany, he served in the German military in World War I. A son of Bernhard and Maria Wessel, he was born Sept. 5, 1898.

In 1925 Wessel emigrated to the United States, settling at Colton where he worked for others for several years and then began farming. In 1955 he moved from Colton to a farm near Genesee where he continued to live after illness forced him to early retirement, but he continued to reside at his farm until death.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Genesee and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

An adopted daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Leonard Konen, and a granddaughter, Joyce at the Wessels home and a brother in Germany, Karl Wessel, survive. A brother and five sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral mass was said Monday at 10:30 a.m. by Re. William Dohman, pastor, at St. Mary's church.

Mrs. Wilson Esser was organist, and Mrs. Les Allen vocalist.

Recitation of the rosary was Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, Lewiston.

Pallbearers were Ralph Baumgartner, Tom Kinzer, Wm. Mervyn, Ralph Bielenberg, Merle Roberts and Paul Krick.

Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
