Candelaria (Cande) Martha Velasco passed away peacefully, Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow.
Cande, known as "Ama" by her loving family, was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Sucre, Bolivia. In 1955 she moved from Bolivia to Iowa City, Iowa, with the Hazard Chopitea family with whom she had lived with since 1941. There, despite her language barrier, she worked hard in a nursing home and in the housekeeping staff for the University of Iowa.
She was an exceptional cook and a strong advocate of all those in need - especially children and the elderly. Cande found solace in the Catholic Church and was an active member of St. Augustine's in Moscow.
She is survived by her loving family members who will always refer to her as Ama.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
