Heart attack takes Joseph Tobin

Joseph C. Tobin, 87, a retired Genesee farmer and a former employe [sic] of the city of Lewiston and the Idaho Highway Department, died of a heart attack at 8:50 Monday night at Lewiston Convalescent Center. He had been ill for three years.

He had lived for the past several years at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James J. Tobin, 2317 12th Ave.

He was born Jan. 16, 1889, at Omaha, Neb., the son of James and Margaret Tobin. The family moved frequently until settling at Genesee in 1910. There Tobin began farming north of town. He continued to farm until 1941, when he moved to San Francisco to work in the shipyards during World War II.

He married Anna Louise Caldwell at Brockton, Mont., May 30, 1917. She died in 1951.

In 1943 Tobin moved to Lewiston, where he had lived since.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus at Genesee.

Surviving in addition to his son are three daughters, Mary E Green of Genesee and Virginia Hansen and Margaret Qualey, both of Castro Valley, Calif., 12 grandchildren and nine grat-grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at 6:30 this evening at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Chapel. Requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be at Normal Hill Cemetery.

Members of the family suggest that any memorial contrbutions be made to the Lewiston Convalescent Center.
