James Howard Thornton was born June 9, 1931, in Lewiston. He passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, in Mount Vernon, Wash.
He grew up in Leland and graduated from Kendrick High School in 1951.
James served in the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, from 1952 to 1954. He was honorably discharged from the Idaho Army Reserves in July 1960.
He married Olive C. Dahlberg May 15, 1959, in Lewiston.
James was an avid sportsman and active in the church as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
He was preceded in death by brother Stanley Thornton, mother Anna Thornton, father William Thornton, sister Glynes B. Meyer, and wife Olive C. Thornton. Surviving are a brother of Enterprise Ore., a brother of Lewiston and a sister of Kennewick; a son of Jenner, Calif.; a son of Mount Vernon; a daughter of Arlington, Wash., and a son of El Dorado, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A gentle, sensitive spirit will be missed, but not forgotten.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Kendrick Assembly of God.
