Joseph Nicholas Theissen died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. He had been at Latah Health Services for seven years.
He was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Genesee and was a 1940 graduate of Genesee High School.
He, his brothers and father ran Theissen and Son meat-packing plant at Genesee, the first company to produce Genesee sausage. His father brought the recipe from Germany. He lived on the family farm at Genesee.
After his parents passed away, he sold the farm and the business, which then became Genesee Meats. He then went to work for the University of Idaho. Later, he moved to Twin Lakes Village in Rathdrum, Idaho, and then to a retirement home in Spokane for six years until he moved to Latah Health Services.
His hobbies included working with wood and metal and making jewelry out of stainless steel.
He was preceded in death by William and Gertrude Theissen; brothers and sisters, Helen Hasfurther, Carl Theissen, Johny Theissen, Lawrence Theissen and Marie Isaksen.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Donna Theissen of Columbia Falls, Mont.
There will be no service. Cremation has taken place at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston.
