Obituary - Rodney O. Tegland

Rodney O. Tegland Succumbs April 7

Rodney O. Tegland passed away Sunday, April 7 at his home in the Genesee Valley. He had been in poor health for several years.

Rodney was born February 23, 1917 at Genesee, Idaho to Arthur O. and Anna M. Tegland. He attended Genesee schools and graduated from high school with the class of 1934, and attended the University of Idaho, at Moscow for 3-1/2 years.

He was married to Evelyn Partlow at Anniston, Alabama on September 27, 1943. She survives him at the family home.

In 1941 he enlisted in the army, taking basic training at Ft. Ord, California, and spent 2-1/2 years in Alaska before going to Ft. Benning, Georgia. In 1943 he was commissioned a Second Lt.

He went overseas in August of 1944 and served in the Third Armored Division of the Infantry under General Patton and was wounded at Stolberg, Germany in 1944. He received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star with 3 Stars, Presidential Unit Citation.

He arrived home on a hospital ship April 13, 1946.

After his discharge, he farmed and worked at the P. F. I.

Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Cindy Ann, at home; his mother, Mrs. Anna Tegland; a sister, Mrs. Connie Hasfurther, and a nephew Douglas Gibler.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 10:00 am. from Short's Chapel in Moscow with the Rev. Christian Oswood officiating.

Yvonne Slutz, sang, "The Lord's Prayer," and "In The Garden," accompanied by organist Lois Macklin.

Pallbearers were Arthur Borgen, Delos Odenborg, Ray Wedin, Levi Rossebo, John Hickman, Joe Underdahl.

Burial in Genesee Valley Lutheran cemetery. Bielenberg-Schooler Post 58 American Legion, conducted the Graveside services.

Note

This clipping was immediately above that of Louise Odenborg (also on this site) who was 84 at the time of her death, being born March 8, 1884, making the death year approximately 1968.
