Obituary - Fred O. Tarbox

Fred O. Tarbox, 81, Lewiston

Fred O. Tarbox, 81, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

He was born June 15, 1924, to Mabel and Fred Tarbox, in Broadus, Mont. The family moved to north Idaho when Fred was in grade school. Fred graduated from Potlatch High School and joined the Army in 1943.

He was a WWII combat veteran, serving in both the Philippines and Okinawa. He was awarded a Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.

In 1947 he married Mary Alvena Coriell, who preceded him in death last year. They were married for 56 years and Fred always referred to her as "his bride."

He is survived by his brother, Ray Tarbox of Potlatch; and three daughters, Sandy Tarbox of Spokane, Lisa Palazzo of Lewiston and Kelly Mills of Kingston, Idaho. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Fred worked at Potlatch Corp. in Lewiston for 18 years where he served as union steward and later as union president. After retiring from Potlatch he owned and operated M&K Sales until last year.

Fred was a big game hunter and legendary fly fisherman, spending as much time as possible at his place on the St. Joe River.

At his request, no services will be held.

The family gratefully acknowledges the tremendous support of SJRMC Family Hospice.
