Dale (Bud) Sturman, 83, formally of Deary and Lewiston, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Pullman Regional Hospital.
Bud was born March 15, 1928, to Clarence and Goldie Sturman in Nora, Idaho. He attended Deary High School but dropped out at the age of 15 and went to work in the woods. He operated heavy machinery all of his life. When he was 18, Bud lost his father. Two years later he married in Coeur d'Alene, and they later divorced. He re-married in Boise in 1954, and they divorced in 1978. He married again in Deary Sept. 21, 1979. In 1996 Bud retired to the lake, spending the next 13 summers at Dworshak, fishing during the week and going home when the weekend warriors showed up. Bud loved to tell stories about his grandfather, "Cougar Jack."
Bud will forever be defined by his love for children. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying camping, fishing, hunting and gardening, always growing the biggest carrots. He always dreamed of going to see the Alaska wilderness and achieved it in 1982, when he and his wife drove to Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Goldie; his brothers, Everett, Dean, Mel and Marv; and his son, David. He is survived by his wife; son; daughter; four stepdaughters; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank Bella Vista Adult Family Home in Pullman for the care provided to Bud in the recent months.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Bud's name to the Alzheimer's Association: Inland Northwest Chapter.
Viewing will be conducted from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Deary Community Bible Church. The family has entrusted Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow with arrangements, and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.com.
