Jo-Ann (Jo-Jo) Steensma was born Jan. 25, 1939, in Moscow. She died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at her home in Moscow at the age of 64.
Jo-Jo, as the kids called her, attended Moscow schools and the University of Idaho, studying pharmacy and education. She went on to teach preschool at the Moscow Day School since its inception 24 years ago, where she touched the lives of many young people.
Jo-Ann had many hobbies, including mushrooming, knitting, sewing and recycling before it was "in."
She is survived by her mother, Betty Steensma of Moscow; sisters Johnny Steensma of LaGrande, Ore., Kathy and Jack Starr of Tacoma, Karen and Jack Bashaw of Moscow, Becky and Tom Day of Aberdeen, Wash., and Shelly Hahn of Spokane; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Steensma; and relative, Dan Bashaw.
The graveside service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Moscow Cemetery, with the Rev. Gordon Brawn, chaplain at Good Samaritan Village in Pullman, officiating. Refreshments will follow at the family home.
The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be sent to Jo-Jo's beloved Moscow Day School scholarship fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow.
