John M. Stanton, of Kamiah, a retired farmer, died October 19 at St. Mary's hospital, Cottonwood of infirmities of age. He was 89.
He was born Feb. 14, 1887, at Butler, Tenn., to Andrew and Hanna Stanton. He moved to Craigmont in 1909 and lived there for about 1 year.
In 1910 he moved to Galata, Mont. and homesteaded on a farm. He returned to Craigmont 10 years later and farmed there until 1936. Between 1937 and 1968 he lived at Nezperce, Lewiston, Spokane and Genesee. He moved to Kamiah in 1968 and lived there until he died.
He married Annie Platz Dec. 23, 1915. She died in 1968. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include two sons, John P. Stanton, Kamiah and Donald Stanton, Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Mary Wright, Spokane; a brother, Wally Stanton, Manchester, N.H.; a sister in Georgia; 15 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at Normal Hill cemetery at Lewiston.
