Obituary - Frances P. Smith

Frances Pauline Smith, 85, Moscow

Frances Pauline (Polly) Smith, 85, passed on to join our Lord on Oct. 26, 2011, at her home in Moscow after a determined fight with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and lifelong struggle with lung disease.

Born March 16, 1926, in Old Bethel, Texas, to William H. Smith and Ola Beatrice Tucker Smith, Polly was a petite, quiet, responsible girl who did well in school and took care of her home and younger sister while both her parents tried to work during the Depression.

She went to work for Western Union right out of high school, where she met and later married Michael (Frank) Kreidel. In 1955, Polly moved to San Diego, Calif., with her four young children after Frank was killed in a trucking accident. After retiring from the San Diego County courts at 68, she relocated to Moscow to live closer to some of her children and where most of her immediate family lives.

Polly was small in stature but full of life, determination, and had an immense sense of humor and dedication to her family. She will be forever in our hearts.

Polly was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Robert Bernard Kreidel; two sisters, Peggy Walker and Rita Stroud; and her parents. She is survived by two sisters; one brother; four children; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has already taken place and a small family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Polly's name to Gritman Medical Center or Family Home Care and Hospice for their kindness and loving care they showed not only Polly, but also her family at this very difficult time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow and online condolences can be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
