Fern Lillian Shawver, 95, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Kindred Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lewiston.
Fern was born April 7, 1916, in Lyons, Neb., to Lenn and Edna Frey Craig. She graduated from Blackbird High School in Burt County, Neb., in 1933. She married Ernest Perry Shawver June 22, 1933, at South Sioux City, Neb. In 1941 they moved to Billings, Mont., where Ernie drove truck, and in 1946 they moved to a ranch near Harvard, Idaho. Fern was appointed Harvard Postmaster in 1956 and continued until her retirement in 1978, when they sold the ranch and moved to Moscow.
She enjoyed quilting with the Harvard Ladies Aid Club, solving crossword puzzles and lake fishing. Fern and Ernie greatly enjoyed numerous fishing and camping outings with their family. They were also dedicated snowbirds, spending many winters in Yuma, Ariz.
Fern is survived by her daughter and son-in-law of Lewiston; brother of Salida, Colo.; sisters-in-law of Nassau, N.Y., and of Potlatch. Five grandchildren. Fern had eight great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren. She was very close to numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lenn Craig and Edna Craig Suhr; husband, Ernest Shawver on March 8, 1987; and great-great-grandson Brysen Hults of Gooding, Idaho, on Sept. 12, 2005.
Viewing will be conducted from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Funeral services will be at 11 am Friday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow.
