Fern Rader, Ex-Bus Depot Manager, Dies

PULLMAN -- The former manager of Pullman's Greyhound bus depot, Fern G. Rader, 64, died at Pullman Memorial Hospital Saturday night after a short illness.

Mrs. Rader moved to Pullman from Spokane 19 years ago. She began working at the bus depot then, and retired July 1.

She was active in community groups and church work. Once she and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in Genesee. She was a graduate of Washington State University.

Mrs. Rader was born Aug. 29, 1911, in Rock Elm, Wis., to Fred and Florence Kendall. She graduated from college in 1938. She married George Rader in Walla Walla Jan. 14, 1939. He worked as a groceryman and butcher most of his life.

The couple resided in Walla Walla for the first three years of their marriage. The next three years they had the Genesee store, then they moved to the Washington coast where they lived in several different places. Rader died in 1955, and she moved back to Spokane. Two years later she moved to Pullman.

Mrs. Rader belonged to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Pullman, and to the Pullman Women of the Moose.

Survivors include two sons, Kendall E. Rader, Pullman; David W. Rader, Federal Way, Wash.; a daughter, Florence Gilbert, Troy; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert B. Quello, officiating. Burial will be in the Genesee City Cemetery.

The family suggests donations be made to either the American Heart Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
