Obituary - Karen E. Penland

Karen Elizabeth Penland passed away from natural causes Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Coos Bay, Ore.

Karen was born May 31, 1936, in Gooding, Idaho, the last of three girls born to Gordon and Nettie (Burns) Penland. She was raised in Gooding and in Juliaetta and graduated from Kendrick High School in 1956. She received her teaching degree from Lewis-Clark Normal School in 1958, and bachelor of arts in Elementary Education from Boise State. She taught two years in Montana before moving to Coos Bay, where she taught at Madison Elementary until retiring in 1992.

A dedicated life-long teacher, she was very creative, built doll houses, made and collected teddy bears, and had many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Lois and Sid. She is survived by many nephews and nieces.
