Gary Lee Pedersen, 73, of Pullman, died Monday, March 5, 2012, at Whitman Health and Rehabilitation Center in Colfax.

Gary was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Sundance, Wyo., to Ken and Lucille Joy Pedersen. The family later moved to Moscow, where Gary attended school, graduating from Moscow High in 1956. In 1957, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Guam with the Seabees. Following his discharge, he returned to Idaho and began his career with the Idaho Transportation Department. Gary worked as a draftsman and was promoted to senior highway designer until his retirement. He was known for being very precise and always had a keen eye for detail.

When his son was young, he coached Little League baseball. He enjoyed the outdoors and owned a place on the St. Joe River near Calder. He lived in Clarkston until moving to assisted living last July.

Surviving are his son; a grandson and granddaughter. Gary is also survived by his sister; and two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melinda.

At his request, there will be no public service and his ashes will be placed with his daughter.

The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow, and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.com.
