Kenneth (Ken) Vincent Noren, 54, Troy

Kenneth (Ken) Vincent Noren, 54, of Troy, and formerly of Portland, Mich., died peacefully at his home on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Ken was born Jan. 10, 1958, in Lansing, Mich. He was raised in Portland, Mich., and graduated from St. Patrick's High School. Ken went on to earn his bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering at Michigan State University.

Ken's strong love of teaching led him to become a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Idaho, where he has influenced hundreds of students in his 20 years there. In 2011, Ken was presented with the Outstanding Teaching Award. In his spare time, Ken enjoyed the outdoors: backpacking, hiking and camping with his wife and dogs.

Ken married in Bath, Mich., Nov. 18, 1995. His wife survives at their home in Troy along with his beloved dogs, Kasey and Murphy. Also surviving are his father; two brothers; his sister; along with eight nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Ann (Irrer) Noren in 2010 and brother, Karl in 2004, as well as his beloved dog, Martel, in 2011.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Troy Ambulance Fund, 517 S. Main St., Troy, ID 83871; or the Ken Noren Endowment Scholarship Fund, c/o University of Idaho, P.O. Box 443147, Moscow, ID 83844-3147.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland.

Another service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. March 8 at the SEL Event Center, 1825 Schweitzer Drive, Pullman.
