Mildred Nordby, 71-Year Latah Resident, Dies

SPOKANE -- Mildred Nordby, 80, a Latah County resident for 71 years died yesterday at the Riverview Convalescent Center in Spokane.

She was born June 30, 1896, in Lilly, S.D., and came to Moscow in 1903. She married Rudolph E. Nordby Oct. 19, 1916, in Genesee. The couple farmed in the Genesee area until moving to Spokane in 1974.

Mrs. Nordby was a member of the Genesee Valley Lutheran Church, and was a past president of its Ladies Aid Society. She also belonged to the Latah County Historical Club and the Progressive Club of Genesee.

Funeral services will be in the Genesee Valley Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. William Leed will officiate. Burial will be in the Genesee Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Short's Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

In addition to her husband, survivors include, two daughters, Mrs. Norman Frederkind, Mrs. Luke Williams, Spokane; a son, David R., Boise; seven sisters, Mrs. F.L. Barbee, Mercer Island, Wash.; Mrs. Richard Burr, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Tom Platt, Kendrick; Mrs. Edwin Maguire, Moscow; Mrs. Ernest Phillips, Mrs. Ted Anderson and Mrs. Herb Kroll, all of Spokane; three brothers, Marvin and Bernard Luvaas, Port Angeles, Wash.; Conrad Luvaas, Moscow; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Genesee Valley Lutheran Church, or to the Riverview Terrace Retirement Home in Spokane.
