Death claims Ellen Nordby

Lifelong area resident Ellen Josephine Nordby died of cancer Saturday morning at her home at 714 Warner Ave., Lewiston.

Mrs. Nordby was born on January 18, 1916, at Peola, Wash., to William and Ella Fitzgerald. She moved with her family to Clarkston and graduated from Clarkston High School in 1934.

She subsequently attended Lewiston State Normal School and graduated from Lewiston Business College in 1936.

She was the personal secretary to the commander of the Civilian Conservation Corps district headquarters at Lewiston for three years prior to her marriage. On Dec. 26, 1939, she married Clarence Nordby at Clarkston. He was an assistant land agent for Potlatch Corp. until he retired this spring.

Mrs. Nordby was a department head at the Big V Department Store at Lewiston before retiring earlier this year due to illness.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Karen J. Moser of Genesee; a son John of Walla Walla; and two brothers, Kermit and Francis Fitzgerald, both of Clarkston.

She is also survived by three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth, who died in World War II in New Guinea.

A rosary service will be held Monday night at Merchant Funeral Home at 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The Rev. Roger LaChance will preside and burial will follow at Vineland Cemetery.

The family suggests that any memorial donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
