Obituary - Kenneth C. Newman

Kenneth (Smokey) C. Newman, 91, Lewiston

Kenneth C. Newman of Lewiston died Thursday, Oct. 27. 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston from CAD, pneumonia and congestive heart failure. He had been sick for three weeks.

Kenneth was born to Carl and Ida Newman Oct. 8, 1920, in Potlatch. He lived in Lenore and in Lewiston at the Highlander Apartments for 15 years, Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation for five months and at Juniper Meadows for a little over two months.

He graduated from Potlatch schools in 1938, joined the Army Feb. 15, 1946, and served in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged Aug. 24, 1948.

He worked as a forklift operator at Clearwater Lumber Company in Spalding and at Lewis-Clark State College as a maintenance worker after he retired.

Kenneth married Audra Newman Jan. 27, 1961, in Coeur d'Alene. She passed away from cancer in November 1971.

He married Eleanor Lawrence Newman in 1978 in Coeur d'Alene. She passed away in 1985 after battling cancer.

Kenneth had six stepchildren from his first marriage; and five stepchildren from his second marriage.

Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Normal Hill Cemetery with full military honors, followed by a memorial dinner from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Highlander Apartments Recreation Room, 616 Warner in Lewiston.
