Gladys (Joyce) Nelson, 72, of Deer Park, Wash., died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Joyce was born Sept. 22, 1939, in San Diego, to Robert D. and Robin Miller Galloway. She grew up and attended school in Southern California. She then enrolled in the nursing program at Mercy College of Nursing in San Diego, earning her degree as a registered nurse.

Joyce enjoyed bowling, reading, playing cards, crafts and handiwork, including quilting, painting, crocheting and knitting. She was always an active church member; for the past years at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Deer Park, and was fortunate enough to participate in pilgrimages to Rome and Jerusalem with other members of the congregation.

She is survived by three sons; and her daughter. She also leaves 10 grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark, in 1994; and a brother, Gary Galloway.

There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday at Pine Crest Cemetery in Deary. There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Deer Park.
