Richard Scot (Rick) Naylor, 61, Moscow

Richard Scot (Rick) Naylor of Moscow died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. He was 61. Rick was born Sept. 29, 1950, in Moscow.

The family lived in Moscow until 1957 when they moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., and then to Los Angeles, where Rick graduated from Daniel Murphy High School in 1968. He then attended Los Angeles City College from 1968 to 1970; then California State University at Long Beach, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor of science in criminology.

He moved back to Moscow in 1974, where he worked at Naylor Farms with his father. In 1981, he went to work for Palouse Producers (later becoming Wilbur-Ellis) until 2000. Rick was employed at Washington State University in facilities operations at the time of his death.

Rick was a member of the Moscow Elks Lodge and enjoyed golfing, fly-fishing, horse races, reading, betting on fantasy golf and football, and playing cards at the Corner Club. He was a history buff and avid sports fan, especially enjoying baseball, and college football and basketball.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Rick will be missed for his outgoing personality and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone.

In 1982, Rick and Karen Kinsfather were married at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Moscow.

She preceded him in death on June 22, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his father, Earl Naylor, in 1980.

Rick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law of Corvallis, Mont.; his beloved granddaughter; his mother of Oceanside, Calif.; brother of San Diego; and two nieces of San Diego.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moscow. A reception and luncheon will follow at St. Mary's Family Center. A private inurnment will be at the Moscow Cemetery. One of Rick's trademarks was his Hawaiian floral print shirts. It would please him greatly for all to wear one to the service!

The family suggests that memorials in Rick's name be made to either St. Mary's School Foundation or to the Moscow Ambulance.
