MOSCOW -- Esther L. Murphy, 90, of Moscow, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. Arrangements are pending with Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow.

E. Lee Murphy, 90, Moscow

E. Lee Murphy, a resident of Moscow, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011.

She was born Feb. 25, 1921, to Esther McFarland and Colman Lee Nichols in Humboldt, Tenn. E. Lee began elementary school in Humboldt and then moved with her family to Twin Falls, where her father was in agriculture product sales. She completed high school in Twin Falls and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1944 with a degree in home economics. She married William E. Murphy Feb. 6, 1942.

E.Lee worked as a receptionist in a doctor's office in Twin Falls until Bill completed his three and a half years overseas in the U.S. Army in World War II. They moved to Moscow in 1946, where her husband purchased a men's clothing store, which became Murphy's Men's Apparel. She was a homemaker until their youngest child was in the sixth grade. E. Lee then worked as a secretary for the Moscow School District until 1973, when she became a medical receptionist for a Moscow physician until retirement in 1986.

She has been a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church since 1949, when she was confirmed by Bishop Herbert Cross. She was a member of Chapter AB P.E.O., the Delta Gamma Sorority, Gritman Hospital Auxiliary and the Latah County Historical Society, where she volunteered her time with these organizations. Other interests were bridge clubs, gardening, travel and her pet dogs.

E.Lee is survived by a daughter; a son; and two nephews. There are no grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and a nephew.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Moscow.
