Joe D. McLaughlin, 78, a retired farmer, was found dead in a chair at his home yesterday by Lewiston police. Cause of death is under investigation.
McLaughin, who lived at 336 6th St., Lewiston, began farming in 1919 in the Linville [sic] area southeast of Moscow and then in the Thorn Creek area near Uniontown until his retirement in 1943. He moved to Lewiston that year.
He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Lewiston Elks Lodge and the Moscow Eagles Lodge.
He was born Sept. 29, 1894, at Genesee to Mr. and Mrs. Michael McLaughlin. He attended schools at Genesee and then married Adelaid Johann there on Oct. 10, 1917. She died on Sept. 10, 1971. Survivors include a sister, Etta, in California.
The body is at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home.

The funeral for Joe D. McLaughlin, 78, a Lewiston resident who died Sunday, was conducted yesterday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. John J. O'Hara officiating. Marie Schnider, Lewiston, played the organ.
Pallbearers were Elmer Swenson, Carl B. Funke, John M. George and Frank Kambitsch, all of Lewiston, Fred P. Fehr, Clarkston, and Herman Uhlenkott, Uniontown. Burial was at Normal Hill Cemetery under the direction of Vassar-Rawlss Funeral Home.
