Obituary - Brian M. McGinty

Brian M. McGinty, 27, Lewiston

Brian Michael McGinty's ride unexpectedly ended Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at his home in Lewiston. He was 27. Brian was born in Pullman Dec. 1, 1983, and the ride for No. 783 began!

He attended grade school and junior high in Moscow before moving to Deary, where he graduated in 2002. After graduating Brian was employed by Columbia Paint in Moscow and Lewiston, where he moved into management. Most recently he had been working with his father in the family business, Mike's Painting, where he worked until the day he died.

Brian excelled as an athlete at an early age, participating in T-ball, Little League, football, basketball, jet skiing, four-wheeling, hunting, camping, bowling, and especially, motocross. Anything for an "adrenaline rush" and anything extreme! Many of his early athletics were coached by his dad.

His own motocross racing career slowed, but he discovered that his own calling and purpose was to be by his brothers side to help him build his racing career. Brian taught his brother everything he knew and motivated him to do his best in each and every race. He was also an inspiration to other riders, who all became fast friends.

Brian had more friends who loved him than he probably realized. Anyone who had the privilege of meeting Brian knows that he was a great man with a huge heart. His smile was infectious, his personality outshined anyone and his opinion was always heard! He loved his family and every moment that he got to share with them.

So now when you hear thunder in the sky, you know it's No. 783 riding in heaven!

Brian is survived by his father of Troy; his mother and stepfather and his brother, all of Moscow; his grandmother of Potlatch; grandparents of Moscow; and grandparents of San Diego; his girlfriend, of Lewiston; his loving aunts and uncles; 13 cousins; and his loyal Boston terrier, Sprocket.

Brian was preceded in death by grandparents, Dewey Normington and Mary Weisel.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene. A covered-dish reception will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Private burial will be Thursday afternoon at the Freeze Cemetery, north of Potlatch.

Viewing is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow.

The family suggests that memorials in Brian's name may be given to the Latah County Youth Advocacy Council, Federal Building, 220 E. Fifth St. Room 336, Moscow, ID 83843; or to the Motocross Association, c/o: EC Enterprises, 3433 Fifth St., Lewiston, ID 83501, for the Brian McGinty Memorial Ride.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
