Margaret D. Marr, 80, Potlatch

Margaret D. Marr of Potlatch died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. She was 80.

Margaret was born Oct. 19, 1931, at Tacoma to Lewis and Elizabeth Sanbec Doten. She grew up and attended school in Tacoma, graduating from Clover Park High School. She then attended Washington State College (now WSU) and graduated with a degree in education, with majors in math and English.

She began her teaching career in Sedro-Woolley, Wash. She later worked for North American Aviation in Columbus, Ohio, as a computer programmer. She substitute taught in Montpelier, Vt., and Lewiston before they settled in Potlatch in 1980. Margaret continued to substitute teach in Potlatch until she retired in 1990.

She was active as a Boy Scout leader and volunteer, and was honored with the BSA's Silver Beaver award. Margaret enjoyed skiing, playing bridge and working crossword and sudoku puzzles. While her husband worked as a forester, she enjoyed helping with slash burns.

She was married in Tacoma on Feb. 5, 1955. Her husband survives at their home in Potlatch. She is also survived by two sons of Potlatch and Prosser, Wash.; two grandsons of Twin Falls and Moscow; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Virginia Doten and Robert and Lucille Doten.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Potlatch Presbyterian Church. She will be interred in the family plot in Berlin Corner, Vt.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund or to the Shrine Children's Hospital in Spokane.
