John G. (Jack) Magee Genesee Native, Dies

John G. (Jack) Magee, 54, a member of a pioneer Genesee family, died yesterday at 11:22 a.m. at Gritman Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for five weeks. He had been in ill health the past year.

Magee, a life-long resident of the Genesee community, was born there July 2, 1920, to James and Gladys Jain Magee. He attended Genesee schools and the University of Idaho Southern Branch (now ISU) at Pocatello. He farmed with his father northeast of Genesee, later taking over the ranch by himself. He gave up farming about 1963, turning to a career in farm machinery sales.

He was with Everett Will Tractor Co., from 1964 to 1969. He joined Nez Perce Tractor Co. in Lewiston in 1970 and remained with that firm until his final hospitalization.

A friendly, outgoing and witty man, magee enjoyed the continued friendship of his former classmates, farm neighbors and business associates.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Lewiston Elks Lodge and was a former member of the Genesee City Council.

He married Irene Baumgartner, also a Genesee - native, Oct. 11, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Genesee. Mrs. Magee is a registered nurse in the office of Dr. William Marineau. She survives at the Genesee home.

Also surviving are five children, Mary (Mrs. John) Whitcraft, Yokohama, Japan; Patricia (Mrs. David) Primus, Pasco, Wash.; and Mikilann (Mrs. Mark) Zenner, Jody (Mrs. Doug) Mayer and Timothy, all of Genesee; his mother, Mrs. James Magee of Lewiston; a sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Julian) Lundgren, Lewiston, and nine grandchildren.

Rosary will be said at St. Mary's Church in Genesee Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. Edward Cope at St. Mary's Friday at 11 a.m. Short's Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
