Obituary - Harold H. Klemm

Car Rolls Over, Killing Driver

A Lewiston Orchards man, Harold H . Klemm, 61, 3108 5th St., was fatally injured at 8:52 last night in a one-car accident on the southwest extension of 21st Street leading to Lewiston Orchards.

Klemm was trapped in the vehicle, which had overturned, and could not be extricated until a wrecker arrived and rolled the pickup truck back on its wheels. He was then taken by city ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:15.

Deputy Sheriff Lonnie Grimm reported the accident like this:

Klemm was driving south in a 1967 International pickup truck when the vehicle apparently went out of control about .5 of a mile south of the city limits. Grimm said the truck crossed the centerline of the road and crashed into a steep embankment and overturned in a ditch bordering the road. It was damaged beyond practical repair.

Grimm was assisted by Deputy Sheriff Edwin Pierson Jr.

Native Of Genesee

Klemm, a native of Genesee and a resident of the Lewiston area all of his lilfe, had been a trimmer operator at the Potlatch Forests, Inc., sawmill here for the last 29 years.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was a member of Holy Names Society.

He was born Aug. 7, 1907, the son of Andrew and Louise Klemm. He attended schools at Genesee and was a graduate of Genesee High School.

He married Helen Stewart at Walla Walla March 10, 1939. She survives at the home.

Other survivors are two sons, Gerald Klemm, Lewiston, and Andrew Klemm, Coquille, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. William (Rose Marie) Kaufman and Mrs. Jack (Sharon) Mittendorf, both of Lewiston; four brothers, Virgil Klemm and Walter Klemm, both of Genesee, Arthur Klemm, Great Falls, Mont.; and Frank Klemm, Clarkston; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Agnes) Grieser and Mrs. William (Dolores) Schleuter, both of Genesee, and seven grandchildren.
The body is at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home.

Rites Conducted For Harold Klemm

The funeral for Harold H. Klemm, 61, 3108 5th St., Lewiston, killed in a one-car accident at 8:52 p.m. Monday on the southwest extension of 21st St. leading to Lewiston Orchards, was held at 11 a.m. yesterday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church with Rev. Fr. Patrick Phelan, officiating.

Organist was Mrs. Clifford Schnider and burial was in Normal Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers included William O. Borgen, Lee Johann, Allen Sather and Bernard Greiser, all of Genesee and Frank Kambitsch and Clifford Wishard, both of Lewiston.

Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home was in charge of services.
