Child Killed, Another Hurt near Potlatch

HARVARD -- An eight-year-old youngster was killed and his brother seriously injured Saturday morning in a car-pedestrian accident about a half mile west of Harvard near the intersection of State Highway 9 and U.S. Highway 95A.

Arthur R. King, 8, was fatally injured and his brother, Walter J. King, 12, was seriously injured, when they were struck by a 1964 Ford sedan operated by Joseph C. Pointon, 82, Harvard, at about 10:20 a.m. Both accident victims are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Aulph King, of Potlatch.

The children had just gotten out of an automobile driven by Mrs. Charlotte White, Harvard, and ran around to the rear of the vehicle and into the path of the Ford, according to Deputy Sheriff Elton Walker.

Both victims were taken to Gritman Memorial Hospital, Moscow, where Arthur King was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Rodger D. Hawkins, Moscow, Latah County coroner.

Walter King was reported in fair condition Saturday night and was being treated for head and chest injuries.

Arthur R. King was born March 12, 1964, at Clarkston, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Aulph King. His father is an employe of the State Highway Department at Potlatch.

The boy attended school at Potlatch.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Walter King, Potlatch; and five sisters, Mrs. Rose Wager, Lebanon, Ore., Lucille King, St. Anthony, and Donna King, Barbara King and Mary King, all of Potlatch.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Vassar Rawls Funeral Home, Lewiston.

Last Rites Held For Arthur King

The funeral for Arthur Ralph King, 8-year-old Potlatch resident who was killed Saturday when struck by a car on U.S. Highway 95A near Harvard, was yesterday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home with the Rev. William McVay Jr., of the Troy Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating.

Pallbearers were Robert Cone of Moscow and Donald Reed, Charles Price and Robert Mitchell, all of Potlatch.

Burial was at Normal Hill Cemetery.
