Obituary - Alma Kellom

Alma Kellom, 95

Alma Kellom died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Karcher Estates in Nampa. She was 95. She was born in Cedarville, Ky., Sept. 9, 1916, to James and Rachel Hibbard Hall.

Alma moved to Bovill at the age of 8 and graduated from Bovill High School in 1933.

On April 4, 1934, she married her high-school sweetheart, Ray Kellom, and was a minister's wife for more than 50 years, living in Idaho, Washington, South Dakota, Nevada and California. For several years, she was a Stanley Home Products dealer.

Alma and Ray were avid fishermen and hunters. Her family and friends enjoyed her great baking and cooking and her wonderful hospitality. Alma enjoyed many trips that included: England, Africa, Haiti, Korea, the Philippines, British Isles, Europe and Canada. She visited every state including Alaska and Hawaii. She felt her calling came from the scripture in Mark 14:8, "She has done what she could."

Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years; two daughters, Joyce Gray and Janet Reed; her parents; and three siblings, Nora, May and Ted. She is survived by her daughter of Nampa, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene, where Alma and Ray joined the church staff after retiring from the pastorate.

Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery.

For several years Alma supplied a hot lunch for a Haitian child and spent time on several Work and Witness Mission trips. The family suggests that memorials be made to Nazarene International Missions in her memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow, and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.net.
