John A. Kambitsch, 76, Genesee Native Dies May 11

John August Kambitsch, 76, the son of Genesee pioneers, died Saturday morning, May 11 at the Latah Convalescent Center.

He was born May 20, 1897, to John and Sophia Kambitsch. His father was from Austria and his mother was from Switzerland. They were married January 7, 1895 in Spokane, then moved to south of Genesee where they homesteaded.

Kambitsch went to school in Genesee and spent most of his life in this area working as a carpenter. He spent a few months in Seattle working for the Pacific Coal Co. He lived at the Hotel Moscow before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church. His sister, Mrs. Sophia (W.T.) Marineau described him as a "quiet person who kept to himself."

In addition to his sister, survivors include four nephews, Don Manderfeld, Dr. William P. Marineau and A.J. Marineau, all of Moscow; Ormand Manderfeld, Kendrick; and three nieces, Sister M. Catherine OSB, Cottonwood; Bernice Miller, Colfax, and Dorothy Wolfe, Colfax.

Rosary was recited at 8 o'clock Monday evening at Short's Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic church by the Rev. Fr. Urban Schmidt. Burial followed in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery with Short's Chapel in charge.
