Harding Jones, Retired Farmer, Dies at Age 96

GENESEE - Funeral services for Harding Bud Jones, 96, who died Monday at Latah Convalescent Center, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Genesee Community Church.

The Rev. Bryce McProud will officiate and the Genesee Masonic Lodge will conduct committal services at the Genesee Catholic Cemetery.

Jones, who farmed his wife's family homestead northwest of Genesee for many years, was born July 21, 1879, at Bristol, Penn. He lived in Philadelphia as a young man, where he was a motorman for the Rapid Transit Co., for three years. He moved to Spokane in 1906, and was a foreman for the Spokane Traction Co. and a foreman and motorman of electric railways. He also repaired suburban and city electric cars.

He married the former Agnes Healey, a member of a pioneer Genesee Valley family, June 17, 1910, in Spokane. The couple moved to Genesee to farm in 1917. Jones retired in 1953.

He was the oldest member of Unity Lodge AF and AM at Genesee, a member for more than 50 years, and was honored by the lodge on his 92nd birthday. Writing poetry was one of his hobbies.

Survivors include his wife at the family home in Genesee; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Reisenauer, Colton; Mrs. Eva Cotroneo, Seattle, and Mrs. Mary Smith, Edmonds, Wash.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Swartzwelder, Ruidoso Downs, N.M.

The family suggests memorials of the donor's choice.
