Ruth Costa Hunt of Troy went to be with her husband of 57 years and her Lord on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. She was 81.
Ruth was born on Dec. 8, 1930, at New Bedford, Mass., to August and Norbina Costa. She grew up and went to school there. She met and married Joseph Keatone "Kate" Oliveria in 1947. He later died, and she and her son moved with her mother, sisters and brothers-in-law to Oakland, Calif., where Ruth worked for New England Mattress Co.
While there, she began writing to Byran R. Hunt, who was stationed in Korea. After his discharge in 1954 and "after chasing him around the world," he came home to California. They were married just days later on Aug. 29, 1954, at Reno, Nev. They made their home in the Bay Area, later moving to Redding, Calif., and in 1971 moved to Troy.
Ruth worked at Latah Health Services for over 36 years as a dietary manager until her retirement. She then kept books for her son at their family business, Hunt Wood Products. She enjoyed camping and traveling, loved to cook, bake and make jam. The biggest love of her life was her family.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also holds a special place in her heart for all of her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Byron, who died in October of last year; a brother, Gilly Costa; and sisters Mary Barcellos and Gilda Borges. She was the last of the Costas.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery and a covered-dish dinner and time of fellowship will be at the Troy Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Short's Funeral Chapel.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Troy Ambulance Fund or to the Life Flight Program.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow. Online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.com.
