Obituary - Jeannetta B. Hunt

Jeannetta Betty Valery Schwartz Hunt

Jeannetta Betty Valery Schwartz Hunt, 86, of Troy, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow after a short illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Jeannetta was born Jan. 10, 1925, to Julius and Josephine Reiswig Schwartz in Spokane. She attended school at Farmington, Wash., through grade 12 and was valedictorian of her class. Jeannetta was acquainted with Orley E. Hunt through church activities and began writing to him when he was in the military. Orley and Jeannetta were married Feb. 20, 1946, at Farmington.

They established their home in Farmington and began a joy-filled life of farming and raising a family that eventually included seven children. Jeannetta helped with farm work as well as her own business endeavors, which included 40 years of tending from 200 to 400 chickens and selling strawberries and raspberries. Along with a large garden, these activities were used to help support her family and teach their children work ethic and family unity. The family moved to Troy in 1966. She also maintained the books for the family farm until the week of her death. Jeannetta was also active in her church and the garden club at Farmington. Each of her children and grandchildren has received a quilt made by her hands. Jeannetta and Orley were strong supporters of Christian education and for many years grew up to 10 acres of potatoes to fund their children's schooling. Jeannetta's interests included reading, handiwork, family and "The Price Is Right." Very few individuals were able to beat her at Chinese checkers.

Jeannetta was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of more than 46 years in 1992; and a granddaughter, Hiliary Douglas. She is survived by her children; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and large extended family and many loving friends.

Jeannetta will be missed by all for her kind, gentle spirit. She was a loving mother, supportive friend and nurturing grandmother.

The family suggests memorial gifts be directed to an exterior sign on the Troy Seventh-day Adventist Church or to the Troy Fire Department.

Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Troy Seventh-day Adventist Church. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Cemetery in Farmington, and a reception will follow.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow, and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.com.
