Obituary - Charles T. Hicks

Charles Troy Hicks, 97, a resident of Onaway, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow.

Troy was born Jan. 8, 1914, to John and Ellen Dugger Hicks at Valle Crucis, N.C. He attended his schooling in North Carolina.

Troy joined the U.S. Army Nov. 18, 1943, during World War II, and was later discharged Dec. 5, 1945.

Mr. Hicks worked in sawmills all his life and was employed at the Potlatch mill and a sawmill in Eugene, Ore., as a lumber sorter until he retired.

He married Pearl Hamel Oct. 6, 1993, at Reno, Nev., and the couple moved to Coeur d'Alene. The couple later moved to Onaway in 2008, where they made their home since. Mrs. Hicks died in July 2010.

Troy enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include one son; one stepson; one daughter; one stepdaughter; four sisters; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Hicks.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse is handling the arrangements.

Services

POTLATCH -- C. Troy Hicks, 97, of Onaway, died Dec. 22, 2011, at Moscow. A graveside inurnment with military honors will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Freeze Cemetery near Potlatch, with the Idaho Army Honor Guard and the Potlatch Post No. 10300 Veterans of Foreign Wars conducting the service. Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse is handling the arrangements.
