GENESEE -- Frieda Herrmann, a nurse in field hospitals in Germany during World War I, died of infirmities of age at Paradise Villa nursing home at Moscow Tuesday afternoon. She was 96.
Miss Herrmann was born Jan. 4, 1886, at Linkenheim, Germany, where she lived until coming to Genesee in 1937.
She worked as a nurse in field hospitals during and after World War I and was a nurse and housekeeper for her uncle for many years. She never married.
Miss Herrmann enjoyed needlework and gardening. Her cookies were a favorite with local children, and she purchased and mailed hundreds of care packages to her relatives in Germany.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church here.
She is survived by a brother, Jakob, and a nephew, Erwin, both of Lodi, Calif.
Serivces will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's with the Rev. Thomas McCurdy officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be given to St. John's Lutheran Church or to Paradise Villa nursing home. Short's Funeral Chapel of Msocow is in charge of arragements.
