Obituary - Ben D. Ginter

Ben D. Ginter, 79, Deary

Ben D. Ginter, 79, of Deary, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Aspen Park in Moscow.

Ben was born July 31, 1932 to Benonia and Ada Mae Ginter in Branson, Mo. His parents packed up their home in Missouri and moved the family of 12 to Moscow when he was 6 years old so they could attend the one-room Seventh-day Adventist School in Viola. His parents later added three more children to the family once they reached Moscow. He attended school in Viola for several years but later attended Moscow schools until the eighth grade.

Ben married Nov. 23, 1952, in Coeur d'Alene. In 1954, Ben joined the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman and experienced the best weather conditions the Army could provide by being stationed in San Antonio in the summer months and Anchorage, Alaska, for the winter. After being discharged from active duty, Ben moved back to the Palouse, where he worked for Sig Jorstad before going into logging. In 1977 Ben started logging independently until he retired. Ben was a longtime active member of the Troy Seventh-day Adventist Church and an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and golf.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents Benonia and Ada Mae Ginter; brothers Robert, Art, and Lloyd Ginter; and sisters Iva Ginter, Mary Dement and Lucy Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 59 years; two daughters; four brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services are planned at 10 a.m. Thursday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow, with burial to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery at Deary with military honors. Viewing will be until 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Short's Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Deary Adventist Community Service Center or the Troy Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow and online condolences may be sent to www.shortsfuneralchapel.com.
