Frankie Evans Taken; Pioneer Of Lewiston

Mrs. Frankie Evans, 71, widow of John E. Evans and a pioneer of Lewiston, died at 7 o'clock last night at St. Joseph's hospital after a lingering illness. Death was attributed to heart disease.

Mrs. Evans, nee Frankie Dixon, was born near Princeton, Mo. April 6, 1874, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Dixon. With her parents she came west and located in the Dayton area. In her early childhood the family moved to Lewiston. Mrs. Evans attended the schools of this city and later the University of Idaho. She was a member of the university's first graduating class. Later the family moved to the old settlement of Morrowtown, where on Dec. 24, 1893, her marriage to Mr. Evans took place. The family returned to Lewiston in 1906 and she has since resided here.

Mrs. Evans was a communicant of the Congregational church and a member of North Idaho & Eastern Washington Pioneer association.

Mr. Evans, for many years street superintendent of Lewiston, died in 1922. Clarence Evans, a don, died in 1943.

Survivors include Mrs. Evans' mother, Mrs. Alice Dixon, 91-year-old resident of Lewiston; her son and her daughter, Mrs. Harve Hostetler, Asotin, and Walter Evans, Lewiston, and her grandson, Gerald Evans, of this city.

The body is at the Vassar-Rawls chapel with funeral arrangements pending.
