Obituary - Eva T. Daniels

Eva T. Daniels, 84, taught at Orofino, Deary

Eva T. Daniels, a retired school teacher, died of causes related to age Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. She was 84.

She was born June 8, 1907, at Leland, Idaho to Jake and Rosa Rains Slatter. She attended Agatha and Leland grade schools and Orofino High School before coming to Lewiston where she graduated from high school in 1926.

She attended Lewis-Clark State Normal School (now Lewis-Clark State College) for a year and taught in elementary schools at Crescent, Welker, Gold Hill, Park, Cedar Ridge, Orofino and Deary, where she finished her teaching career in 1960.

During the summer months, she continued to attend Lewis-Clark State Normal School and earned her Lifetime Teaching Certificate, specializing in reading instruction.

She married Ben Smith at Asotin in 1931. He died in 1953.

She married Vester Daniels at Lewiston in 1956.

In 1960 and 1961, she worked as a cook for a sorority at the University of Idaho at Moscow and for a number of years as a cook at a Washington State University fraternity at Pullman. During the summers, she cooked for U.S. Forest Service fire crews.

Vester Daniels was killed in an auto accident in 1971.

She made her home at Agatha, Leland, Orofino, Lewiston, Park, Bovill, Avon and Deary, before moving to Juliaetta in 1971, where she had since made her home.

Daniels was an active member of the Juliaetta Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving for many years as the church treasurer. She enjoyed gardening, animals, cooking, canning, corresponding with family and friends, reading and piecing quilt tops for her relatives.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry Smith of Park, Don Smith of Moscow and Clem Smith of Lewiston; two daughters, Anna Hunter of Lenore and Ethel Smith of Park; a brother, Lloyd Slatter of Lewiston; a sister, Paulina White of Lewiston, 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Harry Slatter and a sister, Helen Slatter, died previously.

The funeral is scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home at Lewiston with the Rev. Ron Schultz of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery at Lewiston.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Juliaetta Seventh-day Adventist Church of the Juliaetta-Kendrick Ambulance Fund.
