Obituary - Leonard D. Collins

Leonard D. Collins, 83, Lewiston

Leonard passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 27, 2011, after a short battle with lymphoma.

Leonard was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and grew up in the Moscow area; he then served in the military as a merchant seaman from 1944-1945. He and Reta were married Aug. 27, 1949, in Moscow. They moved to southern California for a few years, where he worked in construction, then moved to Clarkia where he worked in the logging industry as a dozer operator and sawyer. The family moved to Lewiston in 1968. After a logging accident in 1970, Leonard worked as an independent contractor for the Lewiston Tribune for 37 years.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Leonard and Reta have 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by daughters, of La Grange, Calif., Vancouver, Wash., and Richland.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Reta; son, Larry Collins; parents, Irvin and Olive Collins; and brothers, James Collins and Roger Collins.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston, with a reception to follow at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston.

The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Joseph Family Hospice of Lewiston in lieu of flowers.
