Charles Cline, 77, Moscow

Charles (Chuck) S. Cline, 77, of Moscow, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Good Samaritan Village in Moscow.

Chuck was born Sept. 22, 1934, in Williamsport, Ind., to Joseph and Mary Peck Cline. He grew up in Indiana and graduated from high school at Fowler, Ind. He joined the Marine Corps and while stationed at Camp Le Jeune, N.C., met his future wife on a blind date. They were married Jan. 24, 1958, in North Carolina. Chuck was stationed at Quantico, Va., Hawaii, and was deployed to Vietnam. There he was wounded and received a Purple Heart, returned to North Carolina, then to San Diego before being deployed to Japan. Chuck retired from the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot in San Diego in 1973.

The family moved to Moses Lake, Wash., where Chuck attended Big Bend Community College, earning his associate's degree in accounting. In 1977, they moved to Moscow with Capital Finance. Chuck later worked for Wally Orvik Chevrolet and Zimmer Motors as parts manager. His final job was in the communications department at the University of Idaho.

Chuck was active in the American Legion, where he was involved with Boys State for many years, the VFW, and lobbied to get the state Veterans Home in Lewiston. He enjoyed golfing, camping and spending time in his RV. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church and will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his devotion to his family and for being a fighter, right to the end.

Chuck is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years at their Moscow home; his son of Hayden, Idaho; his daughters of Santa Fe, N.M., and Moscow; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe, and a son, Paul, in 1997.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moscow. A luncheon and reception will follow at St. Mary's Family Center immediately following. The urn placement and burial with military honors will be at 2 p.m. at the Moscow Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Moscow Ambulance Fund.
