David Ray Clift of Moscow died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. He was 67. David was born Feb. 20, 1944, in Lewiston to Weldon B. and Geraldine L. Swenson Clift.
He grew up and attended school in Asotin, graduating from high school there. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1963 to 1965. Following his discharge, he enrolled in the law enforcement program at what is now Lewis-Clark State College.
After his graduation, he obtained a position with the Moscow Police Department, retiring as sergeant with the department in 1997, after 30 years.
David enjoyed camping and fishing, his time on the St. Joe River during the summer, and Western and war movies. David was also active with the Moscow Moose Lodge, serving in all offices, including governor, later serving as state president of the Moose Association and state secretary. Dave also served as the Moscow Moose administrator for nine years.
David was married, but they divorced in 1982. He remarried in Moscow in 1984. His wife survives at their Moscow home along with a son of Moscow, and a son of Puyallup, Wash.; a stepson of Diamond Lake, Wash.; a stepdaughter and her husband, of Priest River, Idaho; his brother and wife of Dallas, Ore.; and six grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow, followed by burial at the Moscow Cemetery. A celebration of life will continue with a reception at the Moscow Moose Lodge following the graveside service.
The family suggests memorials be made to either Mooseheart or Moosehaven, c/o: Moscow Moose Lodge, 210 North Main St., Moscow, ID 83843.
