Retired Farmer Jim Cameron Dies in Oregon

James Charles "Jim" Cameron, a long-time farmer in the Genesee area, died Tuesday at the Capitol Manor Retirement Home in Salem, Ore.

Carmeron [sic] was one of 22 children, born Dec. 1, 1893, in Henderson, Minn. After their father died in 1911, the family moved to Minneapolis to earn money to move West. They came to Genesee in 1915.

He and Rebecca Ann Williams were married Oct. 29, 1917, in Moscow. They farmed east of Genesee in the Grey Eagle district until 1960, when they retired. They moved to Salem in 1965. The Camerons sold their farm about 1970 to Don and Donna Hermann.

While at Genesee, Cameron was a member of the Community Church and the Knights of Pythias. He was a life member of the Clarkston, Wash., Moose Lodge. He later joinged [sic] the First Presbyterian Church in Salem. He was "civic-minded," participating in and encouraging community growth.

Survivors, in addition to his wife at Salem, are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne Smith of Gresham, ore., and Mrs. Robert Colby of Midland, Mich.; a brother, Gilbert of Los Angeles, and two sisters, Melvina McLean of Omak, Wash., and Josephine Belivean of Pengilly, Minn; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Short's Chapel with the Rev. Melford Knight of Wapato, Wash., officiating. Burial will be in the Genesee City Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Lewiston Children's Home.
