Obituary - Rex R. Blewett

Rex R. Blewett, 87, Riverside, Calif.

Rex R. Blewett, 87, retired colonel in the U.S. Army, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at a military retirement community in Riverside, Calif.

Rex was born Dec. 23, 1921, the youngest of 14 children born to Jack and Lily Blewett of Culdesac.

He spent much of his early life in Kendrick, then went on to the University of Idaho, where he joined Army ROTC and graduated with a degree in business administration.

Rex served in Europe, Korea and Vietnam. Commendations awarded to him during his military career included the Bornze Star with Valor (with oak leaf cluster), Purple Heart, Legion of Merit (two OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Lewiston is home to his only surviving sibling, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews and their families.

Tentative plans are for a service in early June at Riverside Military Cemetery, plus a celebration of life at the retirement community.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rex's name to Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, 1660 S. Columbian Way, Seattle, WA 98108, would be appreciated.
