George R. Bell, 77, Lewiston

George (Bob) Robert Bell, of Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, of complications following an operation.

He was born April 11, 1933, in Moscow to Eva Button and Ray Bell. He was raised in Potlatch on the family farm and graduated in 1951 from Potlatch High School.

He married his first wife on Aug. 19, 1951. They divorced in 1970.

He logged in and around Potlatch, and worked from 1959 to 1966 as an equipment operator for Commercial Builders in Moscow. He traveled around the area as a heavy-equipment operator for Vern Johnson of Spokane from 1968 to 1977, and worked for Haener Crane Service until his retirement in 1991.

For a short time he was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve.

He married his present wife on March 27, 1977, in Lewiston.

He enjoyed any motorized racing, and raced himself. He also enjoyed gardening and traveling - he had just returned from a trip to Alaska six days prior to taking his final journey.

He is survived by his wife of Lewiston; a son of Anchorage, Alaska, and a son of Otis Orchards, Wash; a daughter of Eatonville, Wash.; a grandson of Beale Air Force base, Calif., a grandson of Anchorage and a grandson of Washington state, a grandson of Puyallup, Wash., a grandson of Mineola, Texas, and a grandson of Utah; a granddaughter of Everett, Wash., and a granddaughter of Spokane; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Eva Bell; and sister Marie Petrock.

Cremation will take place and no service is planned at this time. Mountain View Funeral Home of Lewiston is handling arrangements.
