Stanton Becker, 73, a Nez Perce County farmer and long a prominent figure in agricultural affairs, died Saturday afteroon at a Lewiston Hospital. Death was attributed to cancer.
Becker was a Genesee native, born Oct. 5, 1904, to Ernest and Nell Becker. He was graduated from Genesee High School in 1921 and attended the University of Idaho one year.
He lived and farmed in the Rimrock area south of Genesee.
Becker's civic participation included membership and past chairman membership and past chairman of the dissolved Nez Perce County planning board, formed in 1956. He was a former president of the county cattlemen's association and at his death was chairman of the board of Pacific Empire Life Insurance Co., founded in Lewiston and now based in Boise.
He was a 12-year member of the board of trustees of the Portland International Fair and president of the St. Mary's Parish Council when the Genesee church was rebuilt in 1964 after it was destroyed by fire. He also was a member of the Genesee Knights of Columbus and the Lewiston Elks Lodge.
Becker began farming in 1924. He was married Jan. 13, 1930, to Leona Wagner at Genesee. She survives at the family home.
Other survivors are two sons, Donald and Dale of Genesee, and one daughter, Ann (Mrs. Jon) Nilsson of Cavendish; a brother, J.D. Becker of Bothell, Wash.; a sister, Margaret Brink of Pocatello, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Rosary will be recited tonight at 7:30 at St. Mary's Church in Genesee. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow in the Genesee Catholic Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Elks Rehabilitation Center in Boise or to the Genesee ambulance fund.

Stanton Becker, 73, a Nez Perce County pioneer whose public service career spanned some 30 years, died at 1:50 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital at Lewiston of cancer.
A resident of the Rimrock area near Genesee, Becker was the last surviving member and a past chairman of the former Nez Perce County planning board which was formed in 1956. The panel is known now as the planning and zoning commissions.
One of Becker's last public functions was that of a witness before Idaho Gov. John Evans and Washington Gov. Dixy Lee Ray at their hearings at Lewiston last December on a dam construction proposal near Asotin.
In failing health for the past year, he had been in the hospital for two days. He graduated from Genesee High School in 1921 and attended the University of Idaho at Moscow that year. He was born Oct. 5, 1904, at Genesee to Ernest and Nell Baker.
A 12-year member of the board of trustees of Portland International Fair, Becker began farming in the Rimrock area in 1924. His public service career began during World War II when he served on the county machinery rationing board.
He was president of the parish council when St. Mary's Church at Genesee was rebuilt in 1964. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Lewiston Elks Lodge 896.
Becker married Leona Wagner Jan. 13, 1930 at Genesee. She survives at their home. The couple had two sons, Donald Becker and Dale Becker, both of Genesee and a daughter, Ann Nilsson of Cavendish.
