MOSCOW -- Charles W. Baumgartner, 84, a longtime employee of Genesee Union Warehouse, died Saturday at Gritman Medical Center at Moscow following emergency surgery.
Baumgartner was a lifelong resident of Lewiston, Clarkston and Genesee.
He and Pat Hatfield were married 62 years ago on Nov. 14, 1936, at Spokane. She survives him at the Moscow Care Center.
He was born Aug. 8, 1914, at Leon, Idaho, to William and Kathryn Hasfurther Baumgartner. He grew up at Genesee and graduated from Genesee High school.
He then moved to Lewiston, where he worked for Huggins Creamery and Mark Means Co.
Baumgartner returned to Genesee in 1947 and worked for 33 years at the Genesee Union Warehouse, retiring in 1980.
His hobby was his family and friends.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Maury Baumgartner of Seattle and Dave Baumgartner of Genesee; a daughter, Julie Roach of Genesee; two sisters, Kathryn Springer of Genesee and Dorothy Bertrand of Woodburn, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Magee.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Short's Funeral Chapel at Moscow. The Rev. Daniel Baumgartner of Bethany Presbyterian Church at Seattle will officiate.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Genesee Ambulance Fund.
