Obituary - Helen K. Baldwin

Helen Kathleen Newby Baldwin, 66

Helen Kathleen (Kathy) Newby Baldwin passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 13, 2011, at her home in Potlatch.

She was born Jan. 9, 1945, in Grangeville, to Alvis Franklin and Anna M. Mason Newby. She attended her schooling at Grangeville and graduated from Grangeville High School in 1963.

Kathy married on Nov. 23, 1963, at Grangeville, where the couple would make their home. Her husband worked as a saw filer for local sawmills and they lived in many communities including Elk City, Superior, Mont., and St. Anthony and Salmon, Idaho. The couple moved to Potlatch in 1980, where they raised their family and made their home since.

Kathy was employed at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow from 1992 to 2007 as a certified nursing assistant in the same-day surgery unit. In 2007 she retired to spend more time with her husband and family.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, crosswords and bargain hunting. Kathy was active in the Potlatch Junior Miss Program for several years and also opened her home to foreign exchange students. Nothing brought more joy to her life than her husband and having her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and family surrounding her.

Survivors include her husband of Potlatch; four daughters; three sisters; one brother; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Community Bible Church, 1185 W. Fairview, Colfax. A family urn burial will be conducted at a later date at the cemetery in Kooskia.

Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse is handling the arrangements.
