Obituary - Lillian S. Bafus

Lillian Bafus, 97, Lewiston

Lillian Sybil Abigail Maude Cory Bafus passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston, at the age of 97. She was born to David and Florence Scott Cory in Missouri on June 7, 1913. She was one of seven children. At an early age, her family moved to the St. Maries area and settled on Cherry Creek.

Sib, as she was called at that time, was a very bright girl, and graduated from St. Maries High School in 1929 at the age of 15. During high school, she was a member of one of St. Maries High School's earliest ladies' basketball teams. She was one of the youngest clerks to work at the Benewah County Courthouse.

She married Dan Bafus in 1936 at Coeur d'Alene. They lived in Bakersfield, Calif., during World War II and later in Moscow. They lived on a small farm on Robinson Lake Road and were the owner/operators of Bafus Jewelers in downtown Moscow for many years.

After retirement, they sold the farm and moved to a ranch outside of Kendrick, living there for 18 years. They then retired a second time, moving to Lewiston. Lillian has lived the past several years at The Cottage at Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston.

From the time her oldest daughter was born until she held her youngest great-grandchildren, each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest delight. She loved to hear of their antics and accomplishments, and delighted in having them around her.

Lillian was a devout follower of Jesus and even in her last days enjoyed hearing the Bible read or hymns sung to her.

She is survived her children, daughter and husband of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, a daughter of Lewiston, and son and wife of Moscow; grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston.

Memorials can be made in her name to the North Idaho Children's Home in Lewiston.
